| NEW Rails to Trails Pathway |
A brand new, paved pathway has been constructed to connect Kimberley to Cranbrook. This new "green way" replaces the old mining railway that originated from 1913 when CPR built spur lines to various mines including the Sullivan Mine in Kimberley, BC. The railway line has since remained idle after the closure of the mine in 2001 which "paved the pathway" for this new trail that provides a fantastic option for emission-free travel, enjoyable recreation, and beautiful scenery of the area. It is accessible for all ages and abilities as it is wheelchair friendly.

| Arts on the Edge Festival this Weekend! |
Calling all Musicians, Artists, Actors, and Artisans! Kimberley’s Arts on the Edge festival will take place this weekend, August 6th and 7th. After being held in the Platzl for the past 5 years, it has relocated to Coronation Park with entry fees of $5 per adult and $2 per child. In the park there will be live music, artisan displays & vendors, and children’s entertainment from 11am-5pm. Starting at 3pm, Off Center Players perform "A Candle in the Wind" followed by a dance (no minors) from 8pm-12am.

| Summit Fund Supports Lindsay Park Elementary |
Kimberley Alpine Resort is proud to have supported the students of Lindsay Park Elementary School with a donation for swimming lessons through the Summit Fund. 143 young people ranging in age from 5 to 9 years gained increased water confidence, and students in Grades 1-3 learned specific swimming skills to increase their safety and competence in the water. Each student received 10 lessons through January to March and Kindergarten students were taken to the pool for 2 visits each during June.

| Drive to Kimberley Offers Best Wildlife Sightings - See Recent Photos! |
The drive to Kimberley is a beautiful one with the best chances of seeing wildlife in the summer. From Hwy 1, driving down Hwy 93 through Kootenay National Park is a wilderness experience in itself with very little traffic and the surrounding vistas of forest and mountains sans wildlife fencing (a note to be aware of this while driving). But it is not just the park section of the drive that offers the opportunity to see wildlife, it is quite common to have multiple wildlife sightings throughout the entire drive to Kimberley, including: bears, sheep, goats, deer, elk, and moose.
These photos were taken on Monday evening on the drive down to Kimberley. Mama and her cubs were frolicking in the small, grassy meadow alongside the highway.

| Compete in Greasy Rail Jam this Saturday! |
The annual Kimberley Alpine Resort Greasy Rail Jam is on for this Saturday February 27. The competition is open to all ages, registration is available online or from 8am -9:30 a.m. on Saturday (Feb 27) in the Stemwinder Bar & Grill. Cost is $20 plus a $20 bib deposit. All minors must have a parental consent waiver signed and helmets are mandatory. Categories for male and female competitors and sorted by age. Competitors will be able to hit the elements of their choice. Judging is based on difficulty, technique and amplitude. The competition will start at 11:30am and will run for up to three hours based on the number of competitors. Spectators can enjoy the fun atmosphere with music and loads of door prizes to be won!

| Paralympic Athletes Training & Racing in IPC Noram Cup |
As a proud supporter of athletic development for paralympic alpine skiers, Kimberley Alpine Resort is thrilled to be hosting paralympic alpine athletes this week, competing in the IPC Noram Cup. International athletes, 40 in total from 8 countries, are currently race training on Kimberley's dedicated run, the Dreadnaught. The event consists of 2 days of downhill training runs starting Feb 9th with 2 official Downhill races on Thursday Feb 11th and 2 Super G races on the Friday February 12th.
Some of the Canadian entries include the return of Luke Donovan, currently a student at the College of the Rockies, Sam Daniels, Jeff Dickson and Melanie Swartz. These athletes have just returned from competing in the World Cup circuit in Europe and are using this race as a tune up for the 2010 Paralympic Games in Whistler.
Kimberley Alpine Resort has a long history in the development of paralympic alpine skiing and is very excited to contribute to the development of the new Conference & Paralympic Training Centre, currently being constructed at the base of Kimberley Alpine Resort, and tentatively set to be complete by September 2010!

| Kimberley Pass Holders Enjoy Preview Weekend at Fernie |
Many Kimberley Alpine Resort Season Pass Holders took advantage of the extra weekend of FREE skiing and riding at Fernie Alpine Resort this past weekend. The Preview Weekend at Fernie Alpine Resort was a great success with tonnes of snow and smiling skiers and snowboarders, hooting and hollering as they loaded the first ride up the Elk Chair. Snow conditions in the Lizard and Cedar Bowl were like mid-winter and with mild temperatures, everyone was thrilled to be out making their first turns of the season. The exhilarated buzz around the resort from both staff and guests was extremely contagious and a great way to lead into the start of another amazing winter season at Kimberley Alpine Resort!

| Easter Chair at Kimberley Gets a Makeover |
The Easter Chair at Kimberley Alpine Resort received a recent makeover including a face-lift of the base terminal building, freshly painted lift towers, and soon to come, new padding on the chairs. Easter Chair will debut its new look to skiers and snowboarders this winter season. Kimberley Alpine Resort is tentatively scheduled to open to the public for a preview weekend on Dec 12-13th, and then for official resort opening on Dec 18, 2009 (tentative). With the upcoming preview weekend, public opening of Fernie Alpine Resort scheduled for this Sat Nov 28 & Sun Nov 29, Kimberley Alpine Resort season pass holders get a jump start on celebrating winter with a bonus weekend to ski for free at Fernie Alpine Resort.

After much planning, the exciting project of building the Kimberely Paralympic Race Training Facility and Conference Centre at Kimberley Alpine Resort is set to commence this week. This was announced after a special council meeting last Wednesday evening. The project is to reach almost $6 million and will be a fantastic addition for the many paralympic athletes who come to train at Kimberley Alpine Resort as well as visiting guests requiring conference facilties.

| Kimberley Hosts Olympic Hopefuls for 2010 Vancouver Olympics |
With the upcoming 2010 Olympic Games, Kimberley Alpine Resort will play an integral role in hosting training athletes and competitions leading up to the start of the Vancouver Olympic Games on Feb 12, 2010. The ski resort is scheduled to host both an IPC Para Speed Nor-Am competition on Feb 9-12 and a Nor-Am Snowboard competition on Feb 17-18. Canada's National Snowboard Team came to train at Kimberley Alpine Resort earlier this year in February and will return prior to the 2010 Games.
Paralympic Game hopefuls from around the world will be training on the dedicated training run, the Dreadnaught, at Kimberley Alpine Resort including Canada's National Paralympic Ski Team as well as international teams from U.K. Australia , New Zealand, and other countries. Vancouver Sun journalist, Bruce Constantineau, hi-lights Kimberley's integral contribution to the Paralympic Games 2010 and the dream become reality of being Canada's top Paralympic Training Centre.

| Kimberley Summer Opening & Community Appreciation Day Success! |
This past weekend was SUMMER FUN at Kimberley Alpine Resort with a successful opening for the summer and a great turn out for Community Appreciation Day. The weather was amazing with a sunny, warm day and North Star mountain was showing off its summer colours with lush green forest, a variety of wildflowers, and various wildlife sightings. Saturday June 27 was Community Appreciation Day for which we invited residents from local communities to come out and enjoy the resort with a complimentary lift ticket for the day. This is a special day for us as it represents our appreciation for the community who conintue to provide ongoing support. As a result, the base and mountain was full of smiling faces accompanied by an energetic buzz from guests as they explored the Kootenay Haus and the outstanding view from the summit.
The charity BBQ for the Hospice Centre was a great success as the guests kept the grill busy all day. The tasty burgers and hot dogs were an added bonus for giving to such a good cause. Overall, the weekend was a great success and has set the resort in motion for the summer!

| Kimberley Alpine Resort Supports Bootleg Sled Dog Races |
This past weekend, Bootleg Gap Golf Course hosted the 1st Annual Bootleg Sled Dog Races in Marysville, B.C. Kimberley Alpine Resort was the largest sponsor with a contribution of $4000 from the Summit Fund program. An overwhelming total of $13,000 was raised for the "East Kootenay Friends of Children" charity - greatly surpassing the goal by $5000! This new and highly anticipated event in the Kootenay's turned out to be a grand success not only by its fund raising achievement but also by the community involvement with a total of 69 teams and 3600 spectators partaking in the fun.
